Dearest Friends and Family,
First off, Our mission president and his wife left this week, so we will be seeing the new ones in about two days with a meet n' greet type thingy. But, sssssshhhhhhh....that's a secret. The zone leaders told me because I guessed what their "surprise" they told us about was. They will announce it tomorrow in the zone meeting.
Anyway, this week has been good as far as the work goes, and I am sure that the Elder that will take my place this coming change will be happy with what we leave him, but that's not what I want to talk about.
These last few weeks I have been reading a lot of articles from the Liahona. For those unaware, the Liahona is the non American LDS magazine. We have a giant stack of them from the past three years in our kitchen and I have decided to take advantage of them the rest of this change.
Each magazine contains various stories and inspired messages dealing with gospel principles and doctrines and how to apply them more fully in our lives. They also include various pieces of information regarding the building of the kingdom of God on the earth. This is the spiritual thought that I would like to write about this week.
When in Alma 37 we are told that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." We sometimes don't fully understand how true that is. I found this painting by one of my new favorite gospel artist and I want to share it because I think it illustrates this principle very well. http://www. josephbrickey.com/product76. html
The painting is of two missionaries simply playing marbles with some island children. I relate to this personally as a Mexico missionary because we often take the opportunity to use the small and simple thing of playing soccer to help youth in the area accept us to come teach them. But, it isn't just the missionaries that use small and simple things to help build up the kingdom of God.
Many of the stories that I read in these magazines involve people finding ways in their life to help strengthen their brethren, share the gospel, and fulfill their callings. Without fail, every single one of these stories involve some kind of small and simple thing that brings an incredibly blessing in the end. The thing that I have discovered is that these small means are never very difficult to find.
Resources like mormon.org, Mormon messages, bible videos, and familysearch, allow us help spread the gospel message across the entire world in the simplest way possible....via the internet.
The Book of Mormon, a small, simple book containing the fullness of the restored gospel is now translated completely in 92 languages and partially in 24 others (including Mayan!) Our greatest tool in the restoration and the keystone of our religion is more accessible than ever before. Know it. Use it.
Our Heavenly Father is constantly giving us new resources to fulfill our responsibility to share the gospel. Sometimes, the fight might look almost hopeless, but I testify that it isn't. If we are looking for the small and simple things that are around us every day, we can take part in the greatest work there is.
In honor of the upcoming birthday of my mother and mother country, I will be sharing my testimony in English:
I know that our Father in Heaven has a plan for each one of us and wants us to be happy. I know that we have great potential in this life and in the next and that God's plan is help us achieve that potential. I know that this is the work of the Lord and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is, truly, the kingdom of God on the earth today.
I love you all, Happy Fourth!
Elder Sean Joseph Lambert
